With its rolling hills, river views, and perfect proximity to Manhattan, it’s no wonder Tarrytown was once the preferred escape for New York’s rich and powerful. Known as one of Westchester’s rivertowns, Tarrytown is just over a half an hour’s train ride from Grand Central. Tarrytown was voted “One of America’s Prettiest Towns” by Forbes Magazine in 2012. It is the ideal destination to get a rich taste of history, dining, nature, arts and entertainment within a stone’s throw from Manhattan.

Tarrytown, NY - A Perfect Fall Day

Stone Barns Center in Tarrytown is one of my most favorite places to visit year round, but particularly during the holidays, it is a great place to spend time with my family. Located 25 miles north of Manhattan, this working farm and teaching center offers so much to see and do - from the farm tours, to workshops and Blue Hill Restaurant which was recently named “Best Restaurant in America” by the national food site, Eater, there is something for everyone.

My Top Restaurants

Blue Hill Stone Barns

A five-star farm-to-table restaurant sourcing from the surrounding fields and pastures. No menus— they just offer the multi-taste “Grazing, Rooting, Pecking” menu. A fair warning here that it will run you $238 per guest exclusive of beverage, tax and gratuity. A tasting menu at the bar is $188.

Mint Premium Foods

A restaurant that stocks exotic cheeses, cured meat, olives, beer and premium dark chocolate, among other gourmet items from all over the world. Today’s menu: Duck Confit Gratin, Papaya Crusted Tuna, Alaskan King Crab Salad. Outdoor/sidewalk seating available.

Leftyris Gyro

What the locals call “Lefty’s” is the best Greek food around! Order the “Greek Salad” with grilled chicken if you really wanna go for it! It’s enormous and can possibly feed two people. Note: Dressing is made in-house. For a healthy but delicious dessert, get the homemade greek yogurt with honey and sprinkled with nuts.

JP Doyles

Just "Doyles" to the locals. It’s on Beekman Avenue which is Sleepy Hollow’s version of a Main Street. Famously known for their chicken scarpiello and shepherd's pie.
