A Perfect Summer or Early Fall Weekend in Darien

Get up early Saturday morning and take a walk through Woodland Park with it’s many trails. You will feel like you are miles away from civilization. Alternatively, try the loop around Long Neck Point with beautiful vistas of Darien Harbor and Long Island Sound. On a clear day, you will be able to see New York City. You will likely see many other people out on this route jogging, pushing strollers or walking dogs. Then go out for breakfast at one of the many local spots for the perfect bacon, egg and cheese or a fresh bagel. Some favorite spots are Jake’s Place, Uncle’s Deli or UCBC for great bagels.

To continue your splendid day, go play tennis at Weed Beach or Cherry Lawn Park on the town’s public courts. If you have kids in tow they can busy themselves (at both locations) on the great playgrounds. After tennis, stop in at the library to pick up a good book, grab a picnic lunch at Michael Joseph’s right next door and head to the beach. At both Weed Beach and Pear Tree Point Beach, you can set up your chairs in the sand and cool off in the water when it gets too hot. As the afternoon winds down, you might even take a nap! If anyone is still hungry or looking for a sweet treat, you can get it at Uncle’s By The Sea in either location. At the end of the day, join some friends for dinner at a local restaurant and maybe even hear some live music.

Sunday morning is the perfect time to kayak out into the sound and head over to Scott’s Cove or to Fish Island where the water is clear and inviting. Pull up onto the sand, take a break and enjoy the view.

In the late afternoon, gather with friends at the Darien Boat Club which has one of the best spots in town overlooking the harbor. There you can grill some burgers and enjoy a feast on the deck as the sun sets. Another weekend in Darien comes to a close but we are already planning for the next one.
