Spend an afternoon in Greenfield Hill

What I love most about Fairfield is absolutely living in a town with both a countryside and a beach.
For a lovely afternoon in the country, take a drive up to Greenfield Hill. It’s a sprawling neighborhood of properties located in the northwest part of town, both above and below the Merritt Parkway. Homes are set on two or more acres, so hiking is literally in your own backyard. The beloved Audubon and Brett Woods beckon you to explore and delight in the quiet calm of a nature walk. The Audubon Center & Nature Store is open until 3 pm every day except Sunday, so be sure to take a peek at the owls and hawks in residence. The store has a great selection of bird-related items including feeders, birdhouses, birding books and gifts for the kids.

The Perfect Saturday in Fairfield

Start with breakfast at the Driftwood Coffee Shop. It's a throwback old school Southport luncheonette, serving up delicious food in booths and round leather bar stools. Or just around the corner, have a cozy fall/winter brunch by the fire at the Gray Goose, a popular neighborhood haunt from morning til night. I get the corn flake french toast with local apples, cinnamon & vanilla bean butter. OH yes! At nighttime, this same spot heats up with a thirsty crowd enjoying cocktails on the front porch and inside at the bar.

October 1st to March 31st, dogs and horses are allowed to roam free on Fairfield’s beaches, parks and hiking trails. Lake Mohegan is 170 acres of Fairfield-owned trails and lake access for hiking and swimming, during the summer months. I take my dog here in the fall and spring and do two quick laps around the lake to tire her out as a daily workout.
